Who Are These Classes For?

- New gun owners: You just bought a pistol and want to understand it thoroughly before you rely on it.
- Considering ownership: You want unbiased guidance on what to buy — or whether to buy at all — before spending money.
- Experienced owners: You own a firearm but want to make a better-informed decision about your next one, or sharpen fundamentals you never formally learned.
- Returning shooters: It’s been a while, and you want your safety and handling skills refreshed properly.
If you’re not sure where you fit, the Free Consultation settles it. We’ll assess your current skill level and direct you to the right starting point — one of the Pistol Basics courses, or direct entry into Phase 1 of the Practical Pistol Course Series.
The Three Pistol Basics Courses
These are foundational courses, not a rigid ladder. Choosing Your Ideal Firearm stands alone and can be taken at any point. Safety & Familiarization is the prerequisite for Shooting Fundamentals.
Choosing Your Ideal Firearm
What it is: Unbiased, in-depth guidance to help you select the right pistol and supporting equipment for your actual needs. We don’t sell firearms or gear, so our advice is purely focused on your interests — not on moving inventory.
What you’ll learn: Firearm types, calibers, and features. Holsters, gun belts, and flashlights. Most importantly, the criteria to evaluate equipment yourself and judge what genuinely serves your situation and self-defense goals.
Prerequisites: None. No equipment required.
Ideal for: anyone who doesn’t own a firearm yet, or owns one and wants to make a more informed decision about the next one.
Safety & Familiarization
What it is: The cornerstone of responsible firearm ownership. This hands-on class focuses entirely on safe gun handling with no live ammunition — a combination of clear lecture and guided, practical hands-on manipulation of firearms.
What you’ll learn: The universal safety rules, safe loading and unloading of magazines and pistols, and essential “Up and On” safety manipulations. This session builds critical foundational confidence before you ever fire live ammunition.
Prerequisites: None. No equipment required — if you don’t own a firearm yet, you’ll work with ours in class.
Ideal for: new owners who just brought a pistol home, and anyone who wants to learn safe handling before deciding what to buy.
Shooting Fundamentals
What it is: Where theory meets the range. This class focuses on live-fire fundamentals to develop accurate, repeatable shooting mechanics.
What you’ll learn: Proper grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and follow-through. We build consistent accuracy and efficient habits from your very first shots — and prepare you for the Practical Pistol Course Series if you choose to continue.
Prerequisites: Safety & Familiarization (or demonstrated equivalent familiarity, confirmed during your Free Consultation).
Ideal for: anyone ready to shoot live ammunition, and those planning to continue into Phase 1.
How Classes Are Scheduled
Private instruction, any time of year. Every Pistol Basics course can be booked as a private individual session or a private group session, scheduled at a time that works for you.
Quarterly group classes. Safety & Familiarization and Shooting Fundamentals are also offered as scheduled group classes each quarter. Group sessions come at a lower price than private instruction — and private groups receive a price break as well.
Do I need a consultation first? No — any Pistol Basics class can be booked directly, any time. We encourage the Free Consultation for everyone (it’s free, it’s useful, and it’s a chance to inspect your equipment before you train), but it’s required only if you’re seeking placement into Phase 1 of the Practical Pistol Course Series. New students entering through Pistol Basics qualify for Phase 1 by completing Shooting Fundamentals.
